Having taken a break from making art on paper or canvas I am learning a lot about photography. Like the more traditional forms of art, painting and sculpture, photography is all about shaping light.

I am fascinated by the work of photographer David Levinthal. I have been thinking about how to set up my own little dioramas to take pictures of. Today I experimented with some toys and some interesting backgrounds. I’m pleased with the results!

At this point I take a camera with me wherever I go. Just to see what I might find. Today was just a day to chill at a friends pool and, per usual, I found some interesting photos.

I finished a commission last night. Paintings aren’t something I have been working on lately and it was fun to play with paint for a while. I know why I want new images each night. Because I have grown up in a culture where we are bombarded with imagery all the time. Television, magazines, movies, and now the internet. Obviously this is not a new concept that other artists haven’t explored over and over again, Warhol and Lichtenstein come to mind and there are scores of others. I too want to find the ‘something new’ in each day.

This is the first installation in a series I want to explore using doll house furniture.

Every July 4th I try to take some decent photographs. Nighttime photography is an art unto itself that I personally could never do justice. I’d rather work on other kinds of photography which is a good thing since July 4th only comes around once a year! Nonetheless I had to try. Here are the results….
