Playing With Dark

Since photography is really all about playing with light I tried some darker images with very specified light.

I went downtown today which is a rare treat.  I rode the Metro and explored some art in the Smithsonian.  Its good to get outside of your comfort zone every now and again.

David Levinthal

I am fascinated by the work of photographer David Levinthal.  I have been thinking about how to set up my own little dioramas to take pictures of.  Today I experimented with some toys and some interesting backgrounds.  I’m pleased with the results!

A Painted Background

I finished a commission last night.  Paintings aren’t something I have been working on lately and it was fun to play with paint for a while.  Maybe I could make a painted background piece and then layer portraits on top of it?  Not a bad idea.  This is what I worked on tonight including the commission….

July 4th, 2010

Every July 4th I try to take some decent photographs.  Nighttime photography is an art unto itself that I personally could never do justice.  I’d rather work on other kinds of photography which is a good thing since July 4th only comes around once a year!  Nonetheless I had to try.  Here are the results….

A Day At The Water Park

Fun was had by all today.  And I even took a few cool pics.  Sometimes just taking photos of one’s everyday life can be as exciting as a special occasion or planned photo shoot.  I’m glad I brought my camera.  My personal favorite picture of the day is this one…

As an artist I fit all the stereotypes.  A sense of obsession.  A lens thru which I look at life every day.

I learned something tonight….

In the end I love making drama.  I am working on a commission that involves non digital art.  So I painted.  And I find when I paint now its all about filling in a formula.  I don’t want to fill in a formula…..I want to make images that are provocative.
